Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:25
What Now?
The first lesson that you have to learn about Church is that the people in the Church are not perfect. There are many immature Christians in the Church who think more highly of themselves then they should, but you will find that in all walks of life. The key is to keep a humble heart before all.
The second lesson is that sooner or later you will be disappointed or let down by some in the Church. It’s okay. When this happens use it as an opportunity to test yourself, I call it the “Where are your eyes? Are they on man or God?” test. If your eyes are on men as your source to God and it is more important to please man then God, then you will be shaken and hurt; however, if you understand that God allows these things to happen to reveal to you where your eyes are, you will have peace and compassion for the other person and you will sense an excitement about the opportunity God is giving you to know the truth of your heart.
The third lesson is that you cannot learn about true spiritual things from your mind only. You learn spiritual things only through revelation given to your spirit and your spirit reveals it to your mind. This can only happen when you are exposed to different ideas and teachings from others. Studying the Bible can only take you so far because you will see the Scriptures through your eyes. Church and the teachings that you receive at Church gives you the opportunity to see things differently. I call this the “One plus one equals three” principle. You have one view, another has a different view, and through the Holy Spirit, you come up with a third view. Each time this happens you move closer to the truth. The third view may even be your view, but now your view is stronger within you.
Make a commitment in your heart to start going to church in order to grow, and I promise you, you will see things about God that you have never seen before.
Find a Church that believes in the Bible and walking in the Spirit. A Church that is not shy or afraid of allowing God to be active in His peoples’ lives. Surrounding yourself with other Christians that have a heart to learn and grow in the kingdom of God is the first step towards bringing health to your spirit. A good Church is like a good restaurant, they will have what you need to nurture your spirit.
If you don’t take care of your body, if you don’t give it nutrients, your body will get weak, sick, and die. In the same way, if you don’t take care of your spirit, your spirit will get weak, sick, and die. When a person wants to live a healthy life they study the things that will make that it possible. You now have to do the same thing with your new spiritual life; you seek out what you need to do to bring strength and health to your spirit.
Below I have listed the basics of what will bring health to your spirit. I am just pointing you in the right direction; you have to choose to walk in it.
Learning to pray is a journey within itself. You will start with simple prayers and most of the time they will be about you. As you grow your praying will expand into prayers for others, then prayers about the kingdom of God, and then your prayers, about yourself, others, the kingdom of God, will develop into a sense of worship and great humbleness.
Find prayer meetings and learn from others. Read the Bible and put what you read into prayers; praying the Scripture, but making it your words. It is hard to pray every day and often throughout the day for most, you will have to commit to it and make it as normal as breathing. Don’t do anything without praying about it.
