Pick-Up Times
To supply food to over 100 people (and growing) a week costs us more money then we have. With the help of others and donations from individuals and corporations we are able to keep up with the demand so far - though we always seem to slightly go over budget.
We try to provide the basics for 5-7 small meals per person a week. This includes meats, box goods, and can goods, but lately we have been having to cut back in order to meet demand.
This is to supplement the food that they buy or get from other food pantries, though we are the only one that we know of in the area. For many of those who receive food from us, it is very difficult to get food anywhere else due to lack of transportation (many have to ride the bus to the out of area food pantry and then carry the food back on the bus - sometimes with multiple stops).
Food stamps have been cut back, but like food pantries, food stamps are only designed to supplement a person's food needs. We have found that many people actually try to live on what their food stamps supply and run out of healthy food long before the end of the month.
Items we need donated every week are can goods.
Food Costs & Items
We make deliveries from a 1999 GM Jimmy. We had the engine rebuilt several years ago, but the transmission and power steering has been acting up. We just got two more tires put on, but the other two will have to be replaced soon. Also, it is too small for the amount of food we have to pick-up, and for the deliveries we make.
We need either another vehicle (but then there is the insurance and maintenance, but it would be a nice problem to have), or a larger vehicle. An eight passenger van would be a good all-around vehicle for our needs or another SUV.
Transportation
Related ministries:
As of December, we are making weekly deliveries to about 50 families consisting of about 120 people. Many people are unable to drive due to illnesses (including stroke and lost of limb(s), or they don't have transportation. A small portion come to our pantry, but most are home deliveries.
We need help - Food donation and money, Volunteers, AND transportation - see more below.
